Yale and Harvard Admissions - A Deep Dive

  • The Petroleum Club 2200 Ross Ave Dallas, TX 75201 (map)

This fall, the Supreme Court will consider whether to break with its own precedent and end the practice of affirmative action in higher education. The scale, scope, and detail of the data disclosed during the relevant cases has allowed an unprecedented look into the admissions practices at Harvard and Yale, regarding not just the roles of race and socio-economic status, but also including factors such as academic performance, athletics, legacy status, and donations. Analyses of these data reveal a reality far more nuanced than the headlines and often very different from most people’s expectations.

Please join us as we discuss these topics in two separate sessions: the first will establish a common understanding of the data, with our conversations guided towards the impact of legacy status and donations on the probabilities of admission; the second session will, using similar data-driven methods, turn to the analyses of the impact of race and socio-economic status.

Our goal is to focus on and follow the disclosed data, using factual analysis to deepen out understanding of how the admissions process has been working, and better understand the considerations of the Supreme Court. We ask that everyone consider attendance of the first session to be prerequisite for attending the second session.
