2014 Yale Day of Service

On Saturday, May 10, 2014 the Yale Club of Dallas will join with other Yale organizations around the globe in celebrating our continued commitment to make our neighborhoods better places through the 2014 Yale Day of Service (“DoS”).  This year we have three truly exciting opportunities that will impact our surrounding Dallas community positively. We are excited to partner with two amazing organizations as well as support an alumnus who is opening up his medical practice for the day.  Volunteers will have the opportunity to spend a good portion of the day either planting flowers and seeds of wisdom with young men affiliated with the St. Philips School and Community Center located at 1600 Pennsylvania Ave, Dallas, TX, or providing support for the “Day of Discovery” activities at the Perot Art Museum located at 2201 N. Field Street Dallas, Texas.  Please see the specific description of the events and how to participate below.

St. Philips

St. Philip's School and Community Center has touched the lives of many and strives to continue making a positive impact on the South Dallas community and beyond. The St. Philips DoS activities are planned from 10 am – 3pm and will involve planting flowers in the school’s flower beds, sharing lunch and then sitting down with young men affiliated with the school to provide guidance and counsel on how to navigate school, prepare for college and plan a path to becoming a professional. The young men will range in age from 13-18 and have had limited exposure to role models from professional backgrounds.  They seek insight, guidance and inspiration.  A topics agenda will be developed for the mentoring session and shared with volunteers.  Please contact Ray Ferrell at 972.800.6857 or  raymondferrell@hotmail.com to volunteer.

Perot Museum

The Perot has been called a  "world of wonder" by The Dallas Morning News. Please join us at the Perot Museum at either 8:00 AM -12:30 PM or 11:30 AM - 4:30 PM, to participate in the  “Discovery Day” at the museum. Our activities will range from assisting young people in completing artistic and sports related activities, guiding museum visitors to key destinations, to manning the exhibit halls.

All volunteers must complete the museum’s online application by May 1, 2014 as follows:

Indicate: 1) you are with Yale Club; 2) the date of the Discovery Day you are volunteering for; and  3) the shift time you would like to work (8:00am-12:30pm AND/OR 11:30am-4:30pm).  When filling out the app, you can include company name, Discovery Day date, and shift time under the heading Group.  Just choose the option “Other” and enter the information in the provided textbox.  (Example: Yale Club, May 10 Discovery Day, 8:00am-12:30pm)
