Yale Day of Service

GIVE BACK ON MAY 15TH

We will come together as Yalies…

Yale Day of Service

Saturday, May 15, 2010

See the 2009 video!

Last year, as part of the first Yale Day of Service, more than 3,500 members of the Yale community came together to give of their time and make a difference in local communities. From Alaska to Alabama, from California to China, alumni tutored children, served meals in soup kitchens, built homes with those less fortunate, read for the blind, restored area parks, and so much more. At over 180 sites around the world, Yale alumni, families, and friends worked side by side to change their communities for the better. Please join us for the second global Yale Day of Service on Saturday, May 15th, 2010.

1) Habitat for Humanity

The Yale Club of Dallas will finish building a home for a family of five in the Everman Independent School District near Fort Worth as part of the Habitat for Humanity Program and with the sponsorship of Alcon Laboratories. The scheduled activity for the day is exterior finish such as siding and painting. We will need a minimum of 15 people on site.  We can have up to 26 volunteers on site at any time. There will be a morning shift (8:00a.m. – 11:15 a.m.) and an afternoon shift (11:45 a.m. – 3:00 p.m.).Lunch will be from 11:15 a.m. – 11:45 a.m.

About the Family

Arnulfo Chavira and Helen Aguayo live with their three children in a small, overcrowded apartment. Mr. Chavira has worked for Southwest Trenching Company for 3 years. Ms. Aguayo has worked for Doctors Home Health Care for almost a year. The Chavira Family, Habitat for Humanity, along with sponsors & volunteers will build in partnership during Spring 2010. “We want to start putting our money into a home that will be affordable for us and that we can call our own.” They feel that partnering with Habitat to build a new home is a way to provide “a better future for our kids. We want to raise our kids the best we can and give them what we didn’t have.”

This is by no means a requirement but if you would also like to make a donation to Trinity Habitat in addition to volunteering, you can make an on-line donation:  Donate to Trinity Habitat for Humanity. Please write Yale Alumni in the special occasion box.
