Yale Club of Dallas releases comprehensive new website
Alumni Magnet software allows our Club to present a brand new online Club headquarters.
Fellow Dallas Yalies, Over the last year our Club has experienced tremendous growth. The Club grew from approximately fifty to a total of ninety dues-paying members, from a budget of $5,000 to $10,000, from hosting a few Club events to hosting thirty, and from having one large Club event to having five large Club events with fifty or more Yalies in attendance. We also revised, expanded, and updated our website’s architecture last fall using WordPad. Several retiring Officers were replaced with new volunteers, and we began updating our tax paperwork and organizational documents. In short, virtually every area of the Club’s work has received extensive attention from many alumni. We expect the Club’s success to continue into the upcoming 2008-2009 Club year, with several lunches already planned, an all-Ivy golf tournament in the works, and of course our traditional Yale-Harvard Game viewing party in November. Now I am proud to announce one of the Club’s most important undertakings in recent memory. At our Board meeting last April, our Club authorized funding for a professionally-managed website that could become a true online Club headquarters. That site is now complete. Please take a moment to visit www.yaleclubdallas.org , update your contact information, and pay your 2008-2009 Club dues. You can log into the site using the credentials emailed to you. Then you can change your password to something easier to remember. Our website now offers an array of new features to our members. For our dues-paying members, our Club now has: • discussion forums • career postings for those seeking and offering employment opportunities • automatic dues reminder emails and rolling membership renewals • online merchant-grade payment systems for dues, event tickets, and eventually Club merchandise • alumni profiles that allow for self-updating • the ability to opt into or out of receiving communications for specific committees (ASC interviews, etc.) • an opt-in membership directory allowing members to display none, part, or all of their contact data to other members • Local Club news updates, RSS feeds from New Haven, and other dynamically updated information • A dynamic events calendar that includes up-to-date lists for both upcoming and recent events
What’s more, we have not only a significantly improved dynamic events calendar but also three more special-purpose calendars: community events, events featuring Yale alumni, and Ivy League events in Dallas. As we digitize our archives, develop officers’ manuals, and collect our financial records, all of that material will have a permanent home online, and future officers will have a tremendous resource in serving our alumni. The new online headquarters is far more than just a website. We have a software program that aids us in executing nearly all Club operations. The provider of this software, Alumni Magnet, also serves every Harvard Business School alumni chapter worldwide and many Wharton Alumni Club chapters as well. After comparison to several competitors, we selected Alumni Magnet based on the robust range of features, the highly competitive cost quotes, and the success other alumni groups have enjoyed with Alumni Magnet. In case you encounter problems, we’ve taken the safety measure of including troubleshooting tips after this note. Feel free to contact our technical support at webmaster@yaleclubdallas.org for further assistance. Please take a moment to visit our site, pay your dues, and update your profile. Your support is critical as the Club consolidates its momentum. Boola! Boola! Holland A. Sullivan, Jr. President of the Yale Club of Dallas P.S. We have additional online initiatives as well. Facebook users can join the newly created Yale Club of Dallas Facebook Group. LinkedIn users can join the Dallas Yale Alumni group. Users of Friendster, LiveJournal, and Orkut… can start using Facebook or LinkedIn. __________________________ *Troubleshooting
