From the President...

Dick Massimilian

On behalf of the newly designated Directors and Officers of the Yale Club of Dallas, I invite you to reconnect and join us for the diverse, exciting events we have planned for 2010.

We begin the year with “Feb Club Emeritus” on Saturday, February 27.  Last year, over 5,000 alumni from the classes of 1941-2008 assembled somewhere in the world each night during February. This year Dallas joins 62 Yale Clubs around the world that host parties of every conceivable size and theme. We celebrate February 27 at Sambuca, across from the Ritz-Carlton, as we join Yalies around the world in the emergent tradition of banishing the “February blah’s.”

In April, we welcome our newly designated bulldogs at our Admitted Students Reception. On May 15, we will participate in the Yale Day of Service. At last year’s event, 3,500 members of the Yale community volunteered their efforts at 170 sites in 40 states and 12 countries - in soup kitchens, parks, homeless shelters and schools. This year, the Yale Club of Dallas will build a home for a family of five in one day in the Everman Independent School District near Fort Worth as part of the Habitat for Humanity Program and with the sponsorship of Alcon Laboratories. Bring your family and friends.

On June 2nd, Professor Charles Hill will speak at our 2010 Annual Dinner. A diplomat and a scholar, Prof. Hill is currently an International Security Studies Distinguished Fellow and Brady-Johnson Distinguished Fellow in Grand Strategy. He served as Executive Assistant to Secretary of State George P. Shultz in the US Foreign Service and later was the Assistant Secretary-General of the UN and Special Consultant on Policy to UN Secretary-General Boutros Boutros-Ghali from 1992-1996.

On August 22, we send our new undergraduates off to New Haven with a Whirly Ball event.

In September, we start the school year with our Fall Cocktail Party. And of course in November, we gather to root for The Game, as Big Blue avenges last year’s disastrous attempted fourth-down, twenty-two yard punt return (if you don’t know, don’t ask.). In addition, throughout the year there will be Happy Hours throughout the Metroplex, luncheons and more.

We Want to See You

Our top priority for 2010 is increasing our membership.  Our goal is 50% participation among Dallas-based Yale alumni and parents.  We can do it with your help.  Please

    •    Review our new Membership Categories and Dues Structure, and
    •    Renew your Yale Club membership, or join the Yale Club of Dallas.

Membership Dues: Simplified, Longer-Term, Lower-Cost

We have reduced annual membership dues, simplified our membership structure and introduced three-year memberships at reduced cost. We offer:

    •    Annual Membership - $50 per year – for alumni who graduated ten or more years ago, for parents and for friends
    •    Three-year Membership - $125 – Enjoy a 20% discount when you prepay for a three- year period.
    •    Young Alumni - $25 per year – for alumni who graduated less than ten years ago
    •    Club Patron – 3 Years -- $300.  Subsidize the club’s activities and we will recognize you on our website.
    •    Current Yalie -   (Yale College and Graduate Schools) – Free.

With membership, you receive discounts to club events such as the Annual Dinner and The Game, advance notice of key events and invitations to members-only events.  You also enable the Club to underwrite events such as the Admitted Students Reception and the Yale Day of Service.

Finally, I leave you with words we all know:

“Where e’er upon life’s seas we sail,
For God, For Country and For Yale”
