Parents Club

Engaging Yalie parents and parents of Yalies

Our Club serves two groups of parents: parents of Yale undergraduates and Yale alumni who have become parents.  The concerns we address are quite different in each group, but the Club has recognized the need to develop a coordinated strategy for serving these important constituencies.

We have focused historically on parents of Yale undergraduates by providing events for the undergraduates, and we target both current undergraduates and incoming prefrosh. These events allow undergraduates to bond with each other and also allow parents to meet each other, ask questions, and learn more about Yale and the opportunities the University affords their children.  The Club regularly hosts a “send-off” party for incoming prefrosh in August, and the Club also frequently hosts other parent-focused events throughout the year.

The Club has recently endeavored to focus more on the group of Yale alumni who have become parents.  Some of these efforts are as simple as making existing events more “family-friendly.”  For example, the annual Harvard-Yale Game viewing party has been relocated closer to downtown Dallas in hopes of making it easier for families to attend.  Attendance more than quadrupled the first time the Game was relocated, and indeed an impromptu “family area” developed in our venue, as evidenced by the event’s photo album.  Children gathered and played with each other in one section of the pub while parents could take turns mingling in the larger facility.  Additional family-friendly events, including an annual picnic and Shakespeare in the Park, are being planed.
