The Yale Club of Dallas plans a variety of events for its Programs.  Speaker lunches are traditionally our most popular offering, featuring local and visiting leaders, artists, and intellectuals. Previous speakers include Mayor Laura Miller, Police Chief Ed Kunckle, and Bill Lively of the new Dallas Center for the Performing Arts.  The Club invites out-of-town lunch speakers including Yale Medical School Dean xx and UTD Professor of Art Richard Brettell.  Every year the Club’s highlight event is the Annual Dinner, featuring prominent Yale professors who quite literally bring New Haven to Dallas over dinner via a lecture.  Past speakers have include Yale Divinity School Dean Harry Altridge and Yale Institute for Security Studies Assistant Dean Minh Luong.

The Club also traditionally offers jointly sponsored events with other local Dallas area Ivy Clubs.  Every November the Bulldogs and Cantabs gather ‘round to view the oldest rivalry in college football: the Yale-Harvard Game.  Families from across generations enjoy the friendly rivalry over an extended lunch.  Another joint event comes the Dartmouth Club, which flies down professors each year for a daylong colloquium.  Last year’s colloquium focused on the music of Richard Wagner and its influence on German culture.  The Yale Club is exploring additional opportunities this year with other local Ivy Clubs.

The Club frequently tries hosting new events beyond traditional speaker-focused lunches and dinners.  A pre-Halloween event at the Arboretum offers Club members’ children the fun of pumpkin carving and the educational benefit of a lecture while parents mingle.  The Club plans an outing to the Dallas Museum of Art in November to receive a tour of the DMA’s latest exhibit.
