Lunch Speaker Series: Chancellor Robert Khayat of Ole Miss

Chancellor Khayat's University of Mississippi hosts the first 2008 Presidential Debate, and less than two weeks later, he'll speak to our Club about the debate, the candidates, and the upcoming election.

The Yale Club is proud to host the Chancellor of the University of Mississippi, Robert Khayat.  Chancellor Khayat's university will host Presidential candidates Barack Obama and John McCain in the first Presidential debate on Friday, September 26th.  Just over a week later, on Wednesday, October 8th, Chancellor Khayat will fly to Dallas to appear as a guest of the Yale Club and speak about the debate, the candidates, and the upcoming election.

Join us and meet the man who has been a lawyer, professor, classical guitarist, catcher for Ole Miss baseball, kicker for Ole Miss football, and a Pro Bowl kicker for the Washington Redskins... before becoming Chancellor of the University of Mississippi.  The following biography appears on the Ole Miss website:

Robert Khayat is the 15th Chancellor of the University of Mississippi. As Chief Executive Officer he is responsible for the operation and management of a four-campus comprehensive university. The University includes nine schools at Oxford, five at the Medical Center in Jackson, an Advanced Education Center in Tupelo and the Desoto County Center in Southaven. Through these four campuses, the University provides extraordinary educational opportunities for nearly 17,000 students.

Since his appointment in July 1995, the University has experienced a renaissance. Enrollment has increased, the campuses are being revitalized, compensation for faculty and staff is more competitive, and private support has soared.

Innovative and meaningful programs such as the Sally McDonnell Barksdale Honors College, the Croft Institute for International Studies, the Trent Lott Leadership Institute, the Jackson Heart Study and others have pumped new life into the University.

With degrees from Ole Miss and Yale, Chancellor Khayat has devoted his life to strengthening the University of Mississippi. A former football player, he has received the NFL Lifetime Achievement Award and the National Football Foundation Distinguished American Award.

Dr. Khayat serves on the Mississippi Power Company Board of Directors, the Council of Presidents for the Association of Governing Boards of Universities and Colleges, the Freedom Forum Diversity Institute Board of Trustees, the Southern Growth Policies Board, and is a Trustee of the Joseph Bancroft Educational Trust and the Croft Institute for International Studies.

The event is scheduled to begin at noon at the Belo Mansion, 2101 Ross Avenue, Dallas, TX.  The event is free, but a buffet lunch is available ($9 for salad and $12 for entrees), and parking is $3.00.  Note also that this is our second all-Ivy event.  All eight Ivy League alumni clubs in Dallas are inviting their alumni to attend.  Be sure to join us, hear Chancellor Khayat's remarkable analysis, and meet peers from your fellow Ivy institutions.
